Installation of SW-MOTECH Quick-Lock Sideracks and Alu-Rack Toprack on the Yamaha FZ1

Here we have some pictures of the 2002 FZ-1 fitted with SW-Motech Sideracks and Alu-Rack.
I originally used the factory SW-MOTECH brackets as supplied, but found that I did not like having to move the turn signals. I decided to cut and re-weld the brackets for the rear so I could retain the stock turn signal mounting. I think this looks a lot better and this is the way SW-MOTECH should have done this.

The only disadvantage being the turn signal being covered by the bags. To alleviate the possibility of people not seeing the turn signal I have since added a tail light integrator so the same side tail light flashes along with the turn signal.

The ALU-rack did not have the mounting holes for the quick locks threaded, so I drilled them out and used stainless steel flush head screws along with nylock nuts to secure the quick locks to the Alu-rack. This worked very well.

I also modified the tail section of the bike where the racks go through. I opened up the holes a little bit so the rack would not rub on the tail section. The spacing on the ALU-Rack bike mounts is a little too tight. Rather than cut and weld them, I elected to open the holes up on the tail section instead.

All in all I am very happy with the set up and it has performed very well. The Kappa Bags are right below the GIVI in quality, which still makes them very nice bags. I rode in some serious side ways rain on the way back home from Oklahoma City, OK and not one thing in the bags got wet. Thanks again for the help with everything, I wish you well.
